Stress Relieving
Heating a metallic material to a temperature and holding long enough to reduce stress in the material from cold working (straightening), hardening from flame/plasma cutting, or from welding and cooling at a rate that does not induce additional stress. A stress relieve heat treatment may need to be carefully selected to preserve the mechanical properties of the material that are the results of previous heat treatments.
