Specialty Heat Treat, Inc., located in Houston, TX was founded by Tom and Mary Moore in 1993, we started with one furnace and one full-time employee on April 1st of that year. The company quickly grew with the addition of two more furnaces, and we were off and running. In the first 13 years of business, we became the largest commercial heat treater in North America. Today, we employ over 60 people and can process more than 50 million pounds of material annually, operating 24/7.

Our Houston location primarily serves oilfield-related industries, including machine shops, manufacturers, steel distributors, and forgers. However, we’ve also had the privilege of treating parts for projects such as the Space Shuttle, the USS Kitty Hawk, M1 Abrams battle tanks, SpaceX, aircraft, and automotive applications.

Our capabilities include normalizing, austenitizing, quenching and tempering, carburizing, and stress relieving of various materials, including alloys, super alloys, stainless steels, and more. With over 40 furnaces, we handle both small finished parts and larger pieces up to 25 feet in length. Our quenching methods include air, water, oil, and polymer solutions. Additionally, depending on the material strength, we can straighten tubes up to 25” OD and bars up to 15” OD, with lengths up to 25 feet.
